Martin Luther King Day means lobby day in Virginia. I was with a group from the Virginia Citizens Defense League. As always, VCDL was organized, the members dressed well and ready to let our representatives know how they felt. Contrary to some other groups, they were well behaved.
To coin a phrase, the joint was jumpin! There was a ten to fifteen minute wait for elevators, wall to wall people and orange, Guns Save Lives, badges. It looked to me that VCDL members outnumbered the anti gunners about 20:1.
The Million Mom Marchers were there with their usual “Lay Down and play dead” demonstration. Also as usual, they whined and complained to the Capitol Police about the Pro Gun people.
The Capitol Police were present. There were a few issues. First, they were recording information about selected peoples weapons. It didn’t appear to be a big thing but the CP’s are known for their abuse of power. I plan to do a little more looking into this and will write about it later.
Sergant White was trying to help the people complaining about the issue. He was attentive and polite, but not especially helpful. I asked him about the sword incident and he directed me to an Officer named Harper, who left the building before I could catch him. More about that later. I think several written complaints were filed.
One very pleasant item was the visit to the office of Delegate Shannon R. Valentine. What a surprise! We were greeted like important people instead of …The Public. She came out in person even though she was on her way to a meeting. Listening intently, she told us her position on gun issues and they were well thought out and intelligent.
I plan to do another story on her positions but she seems to be a friend.
A disappointment although not a surprise was Delegate Hargrove. He plans to support several bad pieces of legislation. Needless to say, he needs a serious downgrade by the Pro Gun Community……But then again, he always has .
More to come soon!
